Quick answers
Frequently asked questions
How do I bypass the Windows or Mac trust warning?
First, download only from the official Chronicle GitHub Releases page. If the source and version match, use More info → Run anyway on Windows, or System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway on macOS. See the Windows guide or Mac guide.
Do I need an account?
No. Choose Continue local to capture, browse, search, and restore versions on your device.
Is AI required?
No. AI adds change summaries and meaning-based search. Local version history works without it.
What works offline?
Capture, cached history, keyword search, and restore. AI and account features wait for connectivity.
Where are my files stored?
Your creative version library stays on your device. Enabled AI sends only task-required inputs to your selected provider.
How much does AI cost?
There is no fixed Chronicle price. Your selected provider charges your API account according to its current pricing.
Can I restore without losing the current version?
Yes. Chronicle preserves timeline history. Use Save a copy when you only want the older file beside your current work.
